Our Philosophy
Thinking Animals is founded on the simple concept that
animals do think. Perhaps they don't think in the same manner or to the
same depth that humans do, but they do think. We try our best to train in
such a way as to harness this ability of the animals in our lives.
We believe that the best way to train an animal is to provide an incentive
for them to do things the way we want them done. We try to set clear goals
for the animals and let them figure out how to achieve those goals - i.e.
define the "what we want to accomplish" rather than how to accomplish it.
We believe that there are differing goals for different people. Some people
want to compete in obedience, but most people merely want a
well-mannered house pet. The goals are different, but the techniques are
much the same.
We believe that it is our job to train the person, not the animal. Our job is to
teach you how to train the animal to obtain the results you want or need.
We believe that the learning process should be fun and enjoyable for all
parties - that's you, the animal, and us. If someone's not having fun (at least
most of the time), then they won't work as hard at it and the potential will
not be met.
